How many times have you been challenged by an individual claiming that the organisation is underpaying or not competitive? Often times what they really mean is:
“I know at least one company that pays at least one person more than I’m paid for doing what I think might be a similar job.”
What’s worse than individual employees coming to these conclusions on their own behalf is when our organisation’s leaders fall in to the same trap. They’ve seen a job ad or heard a rumour that company B has offered someone more than we’re paying and all of a sudden we’re ‘underpaying’….
